Editing 08/05

Today I finished the picture edit for the film. It surprisingly hasn't taken very long - possibly because I have not synced the sound. I have however left on the original sound so make it easier for Fiona and Peter as they sync it this Wednesday and Thursday.
What I have done:

  • Added the title:

  • Formed a nice 'cross dissolve' transition into the dream sequence:

  •  Because we only had one long shot of the couple chasing each other for the dream sequence, I have split it into three sections and deleted a couple of seconds of footage in between each. I have then inserted a cross dissolve in between these shots. I think that this formed an interesting effect and has solved the problem of having such a long shot:
  • Cut the phone call sequence:
  • Finished editing the rest of the film.
I haven't included many 'fancy' editing effects onto this film because of it's genre. I wanted to keep it simple and I think Alli did too. She seems very happy with the picture's end result and has not asked me to change anything.

I have been using the script as a guide throughout the editing process to help me piece together the footage in the right order.

Editing 07/05

When editing the Drama piece, I have been using the majority of Monday's footage and done my best to keep the pace and display a smooth cutting between shots. I have however found some aspects frustrating as there is a number of brilliant shots that would work well, but only the first line of what would be a paragraph in the script has been filmed. This has in turn limited the shots I can use as I cannot use them all without cutting four times in one sentence.
I have added effects on the dream sequence (scene 2), such as 'Glow' and 'Bloom' to display softer edges on the subjects and make it a little over exposed. I am relying upon the sound crew to make this appear more like a 'dream'.

There has been a couple of shots that are quite under-exposed, I have therefore had to colour correct these to the best of my ability to ensure that they flow well enough with the rest of the video.

I understand that the lightened image on the second still displayed above looks washed out. However, as this is part of the dream sequence, it fits well with the overall style of that sequence well.

Editing 03/05

Today, I completed the sequence for scene 5 of the film in preparation for tomorrows tutorial. I wanted to have something to show Dom in order to gain some constructive feedback on how well it worked.

Me and Alli also organised all of the footage to enable a smoother editing process:

Post-Production

Throughout the editing process, I plan to complete the majority Myself and contact Alli to come in and give me some input throughout. We have planned to meet up on Tuesday to begin. I have already converted the footage using MPEG Streamclip to ensure that it is compatible with Final Cut as we have filmed using a DLSR camera.
